Session #1—Student Engagement Foundations—Your Network

Understand the needs, desires, and expectations of institutional stakeholders across the Commonwealth

May 12, 3:00–4:30 p.m.

Participants will:

  • Articulate the ten student engagement opportunity types, as defined by the Student Engagement Network, to be able to identify which student engagement opportunities they support and/or provide.
  • Analyze their student engagement landscape for “anchors & sails” in order to recognize opportunities and barriers to student engagement at Penn State.

Session #2—What Has Changed?

 

May 26, 3:00–4:30 p.m.  

Participants will:

  • Develop competencies for reflective practice regarding personal, social, and institutional positionality in relation to engagement activities.
  • Identify opportunities, successes, and challenges that arise during societal crises for cultivating open mindsets and transforming perspectives.
  • Articulate how engagement priorities and objectives might have changed or become clarified after 2020.

Includes:

  • Lightning talks with Q&A, panel with Q&A
  • Watch pre-recorded keynote presentation video: Khanjan Mehta, Lehigh University, vice provost for creative inquiry and director of the Mountaintop Initiative
  • Prework on Canvas for Session #3 assigned

Session #3—Let’s Reimagine!

 

June 9, 3:00–4:30 p.m.  

Participants will:

  • Identify and discuss three potential alternative future scenarios for higher education.
  • Identify and discuss the potential impacts­—promise and perils—of key technologies that will impact higher education and the classroom of the future, focusing on student engagement and engaged scholarship.
  • Learn about an innovative approach to promoting a more civil and just society in a prototype classroom of the future.
