Prior to teaching, Doty was the Assistant Director of Students Affairs at Penn State DuBois and coordinated out-of-class experiences for students connected to leadership, diversity, and service for 10 years. She founded the alternative spring break program at the DuBois campus in 2008 and yearly leads groups of students to diverse communities in the United States focused on raising awareness about culture and poverty. Working in Student Affairs, planted the seed for student engagement and a focus of integration in her courses.

Through the Student Engagement Network, she has been an engagement coach, a grant recipient, and an engagement academy fellow. She maintains a high level of service both to Penn State DuBois through the IDREAM team and Service Above Self Club and to University-wide service as a member of the Coalition on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (CSOGI), a GELE facilitator, and was a co-lead of the Faculty Advisory Group during the pandemic.

Personally, Marly loves to read, be outdoors, and to take time to be present in the moment.
